Frances Gordon is a financial content strategist and plain-language consultant. She has over 20 years’ experience helping regulated teams produce content that is transparent, compliant, and accessible.

 

 

Plain language credentials

  • She was part of the International Plain Language Working Group (IPLWG) working towards global standards for plain language

  • She contributed to advisory work for IC Clear, an EU initiative developing clear communication education programmes

  • She is UK Ambassador for PLAIN (Plain Language Association InterNational), an international organisation for plain language. She previously was a member of the board. Currently, she serves on the localisation and AI subcommittees
  • She is an expert contributor to the ISO BSI standards for language
  • She’s also a member of Clarity in the UK, a group focused on clear legal communication

Tech experience

Early in her career, Frances worked for Datatec, where she first started online communications work.

 

More recently, she has had leading roles at fintechs, Oradian and Backbase. At Narratology, she has led the development of an AI-enabled plain-language assessment tool.

 

Trainer and coach

Frances has trained thousands of legal and business professionals how to write clearly. 

She trains plain language, accessible content, inclusive design, UX Writing and tone of voice.

She has trained online and in person in the US, Portugal, UK, Croatia, South Africa and Nigeria.

Because Frances has worked in emerging markets as well as in the UK and Europe, she values diversity and inclusivity. She has understands how to adapt her approach to different social, economic and cultural contexts.

 

Frances mentors early-stage founders in Africa through the various Accelerator programmes.

Frances  has a deep understanding of brand.  She has put together brand and tone strategies and guidelines for leading organisations.


She founds her AI tone work on rigorous linguistic rules rather than cultural assumptions.

 

Early in her career, she worked for Siegel & Gale, a company that pioneered information design and brand strategy.

 

Speaking engagements

Frances has spoken on financial inclusion, legal design and AI-enabled content at events such as PLAIN, Clarity, ConfabEU, UtterlyContent, Technical Communications UK and World IA Day.


She lectures a writing module at the University of Strasbourg’s Master’s programme in Technical Communication and Localization (TCLoc). She also has run AI-in-writing courses for TCLoc alumni.
